Not only can it reduce training costs and reduce your organisation's carbon footprint, it also allow learners to learn at their own pace and convenience.


What is involved in the development of eLearning Content?

The eLearning development process consists of 6 major phases:

  • Analysis and curriculum design
    A curriculum coordinator and instructional designer are usually responsible for the analysis and design of the learning curriculum. It is done with the assistance and inputs from subject matter experts, partners and users.
  • Content development
    Content is developed and peer-reviewed by subject matter experts (authors) in the relevant learning field.
  • Storyboard development
    A storyboard is usually a PowerPoint version of the content that will be developed into eLearning. The content provided and approved by the subject matter experts, is restructured into a storyboard. This process is informed by programme purpose and learning outcomes to be achieved. Storyboard development is an instructional design process, that turns content, into learning.
  • Programme development and delivery
    Graphic designers and developers convert storyboards into interactive content. The level and complexity of interaction and animation of the eLearning courseware, is determined by a couple of factors. These factors can include: the type and purpose of the programme, the target audience, devices available to the target audience, bandwidth limitations and budget. The variety of devices that the content may be deployed on, will also dictate the type of technology to use, such as the decision to use Flash, HTML5 etc./li>
  • Translation
    If the content is required in multiple languages, an English version of the programme is provided to translators for translation
  • Evaluation
    To ensure that eLearning courseware is effective in its purpose, learner response should be tested in targeted pilot groups. During this pilot phase, the following aspects are tested and evaluated:
    • Relevance of the content and programme objectives
    • Programme activities match the learner level, are interesting, aid learning and promote the achievement of the programme outcomes and, stretch learner ability enough to keep them motivated
    • The technical limitations, pertaining to the learning platform and target devices.
    Courseware adjustments are implemented based on the outcome of the pilot phase and client guidelines, before the final deployment version is approved and handed over.

Different authoring tools were used in the development of the above examples. In some cases, our clients have a specific authoring tool preference and in other Signify chose the authoring software. The authoring software and technology we use include:
